Bulletin 03.02.2023
3rd February 2023
This week's Parent Bulletin is availabe here.
Dear Parents and Carers
Today is the last day to comment on the SCIP planning proposals to build a cycle and bus link, instead of a road for all traffic, between the Business Park Road and our current access road. Please see the first page of the bulletin for details.
Teachers’ Strike
On Wednesday this week, school remained open for Year 11 students only. If no settlement is reached between the teaching unions and the Government, the next planned teachers’ strike to affect our region will be on Thursday 2 March. We very much hope the dispute will be settled before this date.
Year 9 Parent Consultation
Thank you to the many parents who joined this on-line event yesterday. If you were not able to attend your appointments, please contact the Year 9 team to see if any can be rearranged.
Staffing
Mrs Taylor
At the end of this half term, Mrs Taylor, who has been at the school since we opened in 2013, is leaving to pursue a career outside of teaching. Mrs Taylor has served the school in many roles since joining; she was our first Head of Year 7 and Head of the DT Department, became an Assistant Principal, and recently, as Head of Food, has led the improvements we are now seeing in our catering services. We thank her for the great contribution she has made to the College and wish her all the very best in her new career. Her teaching will be covered by school staff for the rest of this year.
Miss Boyns
Very many of you will know Miss Boyns through her outstanding work as our Pastoral Deputy Principal, and prior to that, as a Head of Year and Head of the Geography Department. Miss Boyns has now made the decision to leave the College and to relocate to live nearer to her family. Her unique pastoral and organisational skills will be enormously missed by pupils, parents and colleagues, and we wish her every happiness in her future career. Mr Tom Darling, an experienced senior leader from Bradford, will be replacing Miss Boyns from the start of May.
Role of Principal
Having been in post since we opened in 2013, I have myself made the decision to retire from teaching at the end of this year. It’s been a unique and wonderful privilege to have led the school through its development for the past ten years, and the decision to leave has been a difficult one. However, I feel the time is right for a new leader to take the school forward to its next exciting phase of development, and the Trust will organise this process over the next half term. I will continue in post until the new Principal arrives and will do everything I can to ensure a smooth and effective handover.
I wish you all a very good weekend,
Claire Coates
