Dear Parents and Carers

Nearly the end of the week!

Go4Schools   Two messages from Ms Gildea:

We know that some parents are concerned about their children having entries of ‘Work Not Submitted Yet’ on Go4Schools, and this not then being removed after the work has been submitted later. Please understand that we intend this simply as a communication to you so that you’re aware. We know that there are many reasons why work may not reach us on time and WNSY is not a ‘negative’, just a snapshot of that particular piece not being there when it was expected. The administrative burden on teachers of having to retrospectively change these entries, when we have some members of staff teaching upwards of 450 pupils, means we won’t routinely remove them once work reaches us afterwards. Please don’t worry about this; we use this area of Go4Schools primarily as a means of communication, and parents do not need to be concerned that their child is acquiring a record that may have some negative impact later.

Assessments:

In some subjects, your child will be coming up to an assessment as we approach the end of the half term. There are two things to say about this: firstly, we do understand that the circumstances are different for everyone, and we know we can’t treat the outcomes in the same way as when done in school – nevertheless, these provide useful information for us about what your child has learned. Secondly, please do all you can to ensure your child completes the assessments they are set to the best of their ability, but please do not help them – it is important for this to be their own work. As ever, we’re mindful of the pressure children and families are under and we don’t want anyone to be unduly worried about this – it’s just part of our normal routine.

Free sanitary towels and tampons

The school always has a supply of these items. Any families who would find this useful can email our school nurse, Mrs Barker, who will be pleased to organise the collection or delivery of packages for you: jubarker@cambournevc.org

House of Lords Select Committee

You may be interested in a session being held in the House of Lords next week:

How quickly will children be able to catch up on lost learning once they return to classrooms and how should they be supported?

The House of Lords COVID-19 Select Committee will be exploring this issue in an evidence session when it hears from a panel of witnesses including the Sutton Trust and the Education Policy Institute next week. The session will take place virtually at 10am on Tuesday 9 February and will be available to watch live or on demand at Parliament TV.

I hope you have a pleasant evening.

Take good care of yourselves,

Claire Coates
