Parent Bulletin 03.05.2024

3rd May 2024

This week's bulletin is available here.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for those who attended our last Parents Consultation of the year yesterday afternoon and I hope that the parents and carers of our Year 7s found the appointments both helpful and informative. If you do have time, please complete a feedback form for us here: 2024 Year 7 Parent Questionnaire (office.com).

We are already looking ahead to July and our Year 10 work experience placements. If you, or a friend or neighbour could offer one (or more!) of our Year 10s a work experience placement from 15th to 19th July, then please get in contact with our Careers Coordinator, Mrs McCormack on vmccormack@cambournevc.org.

Hopefully all parents and carers are aware that if you visit the college and are asked to sign in you will be presented with a red lanyard to wear at all times. We give these to all visitors to our site for whom we do not have a DBS record check for, and therefore they must also be always accompanied around school.

Blue lanyards are given to School and Trust staff that are DBS checked and safeguarding trained.

Yellow lanyards are given to any visitor we have a valid DBS for, such as social workers and SEND teachers.

To keep our community safe, we always encourage all children, staff and visitors to be hyper vigilant and challenge an adult if they are not wearing their lanyard or have a red lanyard but appear to be unaccompanied. If you have any concerns or questions about these, please contact our safeguarding team on cam-safeguarding@cambournevc.org.

Recently, pupils from Cambourne Village College were part of teams from this area that participated in the National finals of the FIRST LEGO League Robotics. First LEGO League is a research and robotics tournament held every year in which the participants work on a joint project for several months as a team. They plan, construct and program an autonomous robot, conduct research on a League of their own choice and prepare a presentation of their findings. There were 74 teams competing from all over the UK and all 3 teams with Cam VC students made it to the top 8!

Huge congratulations to Team CERC (Cambridge Electronics and Robotics Club) Activate who came 2nd in the Championship and has been invited for the Asia Pacific Open Championship to be held in Sydney, Australia in July! If you’d like to support and help fund their trip to Australia, details about how to donate are on this link: https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/26033#!/DonationDetails.

Enjoy the long bank holiday weekend and we’re looking forward to seeing all pupils back in school on Tuesday 7th May.
