School Closure – Education at Home

We are preparing now for a potentially prolonged period of school closure. There are still questions yet to be answered as to what precisely the coming weeks will bring, but we are making plans for the short, medium and longer term, and are able to offer some initial answers to key questions, below.

Why is being educated at home necessary?

The curriculum your child follows has been designed so that they learn and know all that they need to by the time they leave us, meaning that they are well set up by the end of Year 11 to get excellent qualifications, to go on to their sixth form, college and apprenticeship places, and to contribute fully to society as an adult.

Each part of that curriculum is important in building towards that, which means that we don’t want them to miss out on any learning in the coming weeks and potentially months, as this would put them at a disadvantage. We will make absolutely sure that the work they do is meaningful and will really help them.

My child is in Year 11 – what are they supposed to do now?

The government has given an assurance that students will get the qualifications they deserve, but hasn’t yet said how those judgments will be made. So, we are trying to put students in the best possible position by covering all bases now. This means certain pieces of work are a priority, in case they are used to form the basis of a judgement.

Year 11 students should prioritise:

• Science mock exam sent home this week – this was to inform projected grades, which may well be important.
• Art and Photography coursework. This needs to be completed to the highest possible standard as final marks may well be based on this unit. Mr Yeates will make a precise list of work needing to be done and will contact individuals on a priority basis.
• Animal Care coursework – as above for Art.
• GCSE Design and Technology - Pupils should carry on with their coursework in the best way they can. Obviously the practical element will be tricky but please try to get as much of the coursework sections completed as possible.
• Engineering: Pupils should carry on with unit R112 in the best way they can. Pupils should also liaise with their teacher about whether they need to do anything else in Unit R110 and unit R111.
• Hospitality and Catering: Pupils should carry on with any written coursework they can for now.
• BTec Sport Unit 6 Assignment 1 – Attributes and Responsibilities of SportsLeadership.

Unit 6 Assignment 2 – Plan 2 sports coaching sessions, justifying the choice of activities.

Any outstanding assignments  from Unit 3: Applying the Principles of Personal Training.

• Psychology mock exam – this has been sent home and, as with Science, will inform projected grades.

As further details emerge, we will make appropriate plans for the next stages of pupils’ education, whether this is for particular testing arrangements or is geared more towards their post-16 choices.

What work will be set between now and Easter?

Key Stage 3 students (Year 7-9)

Each morning, students must log onto Show My Homework. This will be the platform for all work for students. Tasks for the day, according to the timetable above, will be released.

When students have completed their work, they will also submit it via Show My Homework.

As a parent or carer, you will also be able to see these tasks.

ShowMyHomework is the platform for work to be released for students. It should be completed in the slots given. This may include some video content and online seminars via Microsoft Teams, so that there is the possibility of lessons being taught in a way closer to the normal way of working.

What will happen after Easter?

We don’t know for how long the school will remain closed. After Easter, we may modify this timetable so that it is different for different year groups, for example.

We may also make changes for students in Year 9 who have chosen their Options subjects, so that they can be focusing on what they will be learning in Year 10. This will depend on what the situation looks like as time goes on.

The platform for work being set will still be Show My Homework.

For whom is the school remaining open?

There has been a separate communication about who fits the categories of vulnerable students and children of key workers; please refer to this and respond if your child meets those criteria.

What do I do if we have difficulties with online learning?

We are setting up an email helpline for any problems:  CAM-Support@cambournevc.org

Staff will be able to answer questions relating to: remote library systems, Clickview; iPads and student emails / drives; exams; Go4Schools, ShowMyHomework, Hegarty Maths; general support.

How will you check that my child is doing their work?

Students will submit work to us via ShowMyHomework. We will mark and assess work and give students feedback so that they make progress in their learning as usual.

If students do not submit their work, we will indicate this on Go4Schools and make this clear on Home Notes so that you know what they have not completed. We ask that you take responsibility for your child completing work set. Each day we will monitor student completion of work, and if there is an ongoing concern, we will phone you.

My child has SEND – will he/she be able to do the work set?

A team of Teaching Assistants, directed by the SENCo and Assistant SENCo, will differentiate the work set for children with specific SEND.
