Together with with Comberton Village College, Cambourne Village College has established a strong partnership with Lord Byron School in Arequipa, Peru. Every two years, students from Arequipa travel to the UK to spend two weeks living with our students and their families.
The primary aim of this partnership is to widen students' understanding and appreciation of the Spanish-speaking world and explore the history of Peru's rich cultural heritage and diverse communities. In the UK, Spanish teaching and learning is primarily Eurocentric, which can narrow young people's exposure to different Hispanic cultures and forms of language. Our partnership with Lord Bryon School is therefore a valuable means of broadening our students' outlook and awareness of the geographical, historical and social features within different Spanish-speaking societies (in line with the SDG goals). Additionally, it is a means of motivating our learners to use and develop their Spanish language skills in an authentic setting.
