Parent Bulletin 04.02.2022

4th February 2022

This week's bulletin is available here.

Dear Parents and Carers

Year 9

Options guidance interviews have continued apace this week, and the online parent/teacher consultation event was very well attended yesterday.  Year 9 families will receive the options choices forms via School Post on Monday 7 February:  please ensure these are returned by 21 February.  All the information is available via the website and pupils still have next week to ask any remaining questions of staff; please encourage them to do this.

UKMT International Maths Challenge

Yesterday, 170 pupils from Years 9, 10 and 11 participated in this annual challenge for talented mathematicians.  This is a competitive event in which many CamVC pupils have excelled in the past.  There was certainly a lot of intense concentration in the hall yesterday morning!

Access to the College - Traffic Survey

Over the past year, we’ve been actively seeking to address the issue of the planned changed access to the College and primary school through the new Cambourne West development.  The present proposals involve a re-routing of cars along an indirect and circuitous route through a new housing estate which will lengthen journeys and has the potential to cause regular gridlock at peak times.  This is an issue that will affect everyone who ever drives to either school. To further evidence our case, we need to conduct a count of the vehicles accessing the site, next week.  If anyone is able to volunteer any time next Wednesday between 7.30am and 9.30pm to help with this, please contact Mrs Collins:  ccollins@cambournevc.org  : your help would be enormously appreciated.

Alongside this, we are actively campaigning for the short strip of cycle path by the cricket field on Swansley Lane to be extended all the way to the school entrance.   I will keep you informed about these developments, and may need to ask for your help if we are not able to agree a satisfactory outcome with the SCDC planning department and the developers, in the near future.

Covid Cases

We have seen a sharp rise in infection rates and at the end of this week have a total of 74 cases, which includes 8 teachers and support staff.

PLEASE test your children at home on Wednesdays and Sundays, to try to keep this infection out of school.  Although this variant is less likely to cause serious illness, these levels of staff absence have a direct, negative impact on the education we can provide for your children.

I hope that you all have a happy - and healthy – weekend.

Your sincerely,

Claire Coates
