Parent Bulletin 14.01.2022

14th January 2022

Thie week's parent bulletin is available here.

Dear Parents and Carers

Staffing

This week has gone remarkably smoothly, considering we’ve been running mock GCSE speaking exams for Modern Foreign Languages, removing teachers from their usual classes, and have had up to seven members of staff absent with illness on any given day. We have booked prospective agency supply staff ahead of time, to help manage this demand, and I’m extremely grateful to the members of our cover team, and all the members of staff who have helped to cover lessons this week, for all their efforts.

Covid rates

A total of 33 positive cases have been reported this week, which includes eight teachers and support staff.  Cases have dropped significantly in Years 8, 10 and 11.

Face Coverings in School

Please remember that pupils are asked to wear face-coverings when inside school, in line with Government guidelines.  Please provide your child with a protective mask; the provision of individual hand-sanitiser for your children would also be very much appreciated.

Testing

58% of our students have reported test results over the past week; please continue to test your children on Sundays and Wednesdays, to support our efforts to minimise cases of the virus in school.

School Production

After a lot of agonising, the decision was reached to postpone our musical theatre production, The Addams Family, from March until June.  With the potential for high levels of illness among the cast, and our school risk assessments not allowing large gatherings on site, in line with Local Authority guidance, it seemed the most sensible solution to delay performances until after the usual public examination period. More information will follow.

Car Parking

Please do not use Swansley Lane as a pick-up point for children after school. The road is already dangerous for our cyclists and we are working with the Town Council on plans to provide a dedicated cycle route to the south of the school.   Please use the main car park, and park in a marked bay when dropping off or picking up your children.

Ice on Approach Road

Please be aware that the stretch of road from the Barons garage onto the school approach road can get dangerously icy and is not included in routine Cambourne gritting.  We are trying to get the developers to address this; in the meantime, please take great care on cold mornings.

I hope that you can all enjoy a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Yours sincerely

Claire Coates
